![]() Leclerc recommends aprons be used in all their heavy floor looms with 3 1/2 inch beams. The use of an apron also prevents the need to drill holes in the warp/cloth beam weakening them. The apron is long enough to stretch all the way to the castle, but unlike using a system with individual cords, it will wind on to the beam evenly keeping the tension balanced across the loom width and will allow for much higher tensions without breaking or stretching the fixed cords which will all see a different tension unless they are positioned and tensioned exactly the same. The warp threads are attached to these using a pair of metal Warp Rods and the aprons have been designed to be long enough to unwind around the loom breast beams to prevent the waste of warp by letting the weaver start and end weaving as close to the warp ends as possible.Īprons are very, very important for the heavier and wider floor looms as they allow the weaver to apply a much larger tension on the warp by distributing the force evenly along the apron width. ![]() These Aprons are attached to the warp (back) and cloth (front) beams of floor looms.
